چکیده

Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is based on the measurement of radiation emitted by a radiotracer injected into the patient. Because of photoelectric absorption and Compton scatter, the γ photons are attenuated inside the body before arriving at the detector. A quantitative reconstruction must consider the attenuation, which is usually non-uniform. Novikov and Natterer had derived an explicit formula for nonuniformly attenuated SPECT reconstruction of parallel-hole collimators. In this paper, we extend their researches to fan-beam collimators. Because any ray in fan-beam geometry can be treated as a ray in parallel-beam geometry, we derived a ray-driven analytical fan-beam reconstruction formula with non-uniform attenuation. Its accuracy is demonstrated computer simulation experiments.

Analytical Solution to 3D SPECT Reconstruction with Non-uniform Attenuation, Scatter, and Spatially-variant Resolution Variation for Variable Focal-length Fan-beam Collimators

In the past decades, analytical (non-iterative) methods have been extensively investigated and developed for the reconstruction of three-dimensional (3D) single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). However, it becomes possible only recently when the exact analytic non-uniform attenuation reconstruction algorithm was derived. Based on the explicit inversion formula for the attenuated Rad...

Exact fan-beam and 4pi-acquisition cone-beam SPECT algorithms with uniform attenuation correction.

This paper presents analytical fan-beam and cone-beam reconstruction algorithms that compensate for uniform attenuation in single photon emission computed tomography. First, a fan-beam algorithm is developed by obtaining a relationship between the two-dimensional (2D) Fourier transform of parallel-beam projections and fan-beam projections. Using this relationship, 2D Fourier transforms of equiv...

An analytical algorithm for skew-slit imaging geometry with nonuniform attenuation correction.

The pinhole collimator is currently the collimator of choice in small animal single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging because it can provide high spatial resolution and reasonable sensitivity when the animal is placed very close to the pinhole. It is well known that if the collimator rotates around the object (e.g., a small animal) in a circular orbit to form a cone-beam imagi...
